A Publix store that has served Doral for nearly four decades could soon be torn down and replaced with a larger supermarket.
According to site plans submitted to the city, Publix intends to demolish its 39,795-square-foot store located at 9755 NW 41st Street, which anchors the Doral Park Shopping Center. The Florida-based grocery chain now owns the center, originally built in 1987, and plans to construct a new 53,951-square-foot Publix in its place.
The store sits in a busy commercial area less than two miles from the Trump National Doral Miami Resort owned by President Trump. The president purchased the golf resort in 2012 and frequently hosts official events there. The property is also scheduled to host the Shield of the Americas Summit, where leaders from 12 countries across Latin America and the Caribbean are expected to meet to discuss migration, drug trafficking, and regional security. Publix has not announced when the Doral Park location might close.
Parking And Site Changes
Plans for the redevelopment of the 11-acre site indicate that parking spaces would decrease from 522 to 445 to make room for the larger store. Some newer Publix locations feature built-in parking garages on the first or second level to maximize space.
The Doral City Council scheduled a public hearing to review the proposal at 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 11, at the Government Center at 8401 NW 53rd Terrace.
“The company currently has no additional details to share about the future of the Doral location,” said Lindsey Willis, a spokesperson for Publix,
Publix Expanding Across South Florida
The proposed redevelopment in Doral is part of a broader strategy by Publix to modernize older stores throughout South Florida. The company often replaces aging locations with larger, updated supermarkets, particularly in shopping centers it owns One recent example is the Briar Bay Shopping Plaza in southwest Miami-Dade, where a nearly 30-year-old Publix was replaced by a larger, two-story store with a parking garage. The new location reopened in February 2025 with more than 53,000 square feet of space.
In January, Publix also closed its 40-year-old Palms at Town & Country location on Mills Drive in Kendall to prepare for demolition and reconstruction. While Publix does not own that shopping center, the company plans to rebuild the store. Most Publix redevelopment projects typically take between 18 months and two years to complete.
Other recent expansions include a large two-story Publix near the University of Miami in Coral Gables and a massive 64,000-square-foot store at Tradewinds Mall in Key Largo, one of the largest Publix locations in Florida.
