Recently released population estimates by the U.S. Census Bureau shows that many South Florida cities are among the fastest growing in the state, according to analysis by Florida International University’s Metropolitan Center.
In fact, Doral ranked highly nationwide. With a 26.1 percent population increase from 2010 to 2016, Doral was the 11th-fastest growing large city in the nation. That was a gain of nearly 12,000 people for a city of 56,000.
Nationwide, Georgetown, Texas had the fastest growth for big cities at 39.9 percent. Eight Texas cities were in the Top 15.
Looking at growth from 2015 to 2016, the fastest growing large cities in Florida were Bonita Springs (4.5 percent), Fort Myers (4.5 percent), Doral (3.5 percent), North Port (3.3 percent), Port St. Lucie (3.3 percent), and Miami (2.9 percent).
Miami gained nearly 53,000 residents from 2010 to 2016 and almost 13,000 residents last year alone. For other big cities in South Florida the 2010 to 2016 growth was 16,408 in Miramar, 13,800 in Pembroke Pines, 13,200 in Fort Lauderdale, 11,700 in Boca Raton, 11,700 in Hialeah, 11,200 in Hollywood, 9,900 in Davie, 9,600 in Pompano Beach, 8,961 in Coral Springs, 7,638 in West Palm Beach, and 5,900 in Miami Gardens.
No South Florida cities lost population from 2010 to 2016. However, the following cities lost population from 2015 to 2016: Hialeah, Coral Gables, Miami Beach, North Miami, Sunny Isles Beach, Miami Gardens, Cutler Bay, North Miami Beach, Miami Lakes, South Miami, Palmetto Bay, Hialeah Gardens, Sweetwater, Opa-Locka, Florida City, and Miami Springs.
