Miami will be getting its second Topgolf location after the popular entertainment company purchased a 12.6-acre site west of Doral for $11.7 million from a subsidiary of Prologis.
Joining the Miami Gardens facility that broke ground earlier this year (targeting a late 2017 completion date), this new location is west of the Florida Turnpike near Dolphin Mall.
While playing 18 holes of golf may be in rapid decline, the same cannot be said for this fun, technology-driven game that originated in the United Kingdom. Topgolf locations are spreading like wildfire across the United States with 29 active locations and another dozen-plus in the pipeline. Current Florida venues include Tampa and Jacksonville.
Appealing to both casual and hardcore golfers, the premise is essentially a driving range on steroids, where players hit microchipped balls at targets as computers keep score. There are a variety of games to play and even leagues are offered.
Like most bowling alleys today, each facility is equipped with a restaurant, bar, and lounge (and corporate meeting space).
Topgolf claims the Miami Gardens location will generate 500 jobs with an economic impact of over $26 million a year over 10 years.
