A Houston-based alcoholic beverage distributor and importer will hire more people in South Florida after moving into a warehouse facility that’s more than twice its previous location’s size.
Mexcor International completed its move from a 33,000-square-foot warehouse at 14300 Palmetto Frontage Road in Miami Lakes to a 81,000-square-foot facility at 11800 N.W. 100 Road in Medley late last year. Primarily used to store and handle wine and spirits, the Medley facility includes 30,000 square feet of temperature-controlled space and 12 bay doors for trucks. It’ll also serve as the distribution hub for 3,500 Mexcor customers throughout Florida.
The property was built in 1992 and is still listed by the Miami-Dade Property Appraiser website as being owned by AEW, a Boston-based real estate investment firm.
Nicolas Alexander, president of Mexcor’s Florida division, said the larger warehouse was needed to accommodate the company’s “growing footprint and expansion in Florida.”
“In two years, our Florida team has tripled our portfolio, sales and sales team, which requires us to have a warehouse with the capacity to handle and ship over 400,000 cases a year,” Alexander stated.
When the move was completed, 12 people were hired, stated Kirby Levey, a spokesperson for Mexcor.
Mexcor International will also continue hiring people over the next several months including an onsite distribution manager, and three account managers: one on site, one in Broward, and one in Palm Beach County, Levey added.
Industrial space is a hot commodity in South Florida, as the supply of warehouse and distribution shrinks due to the region’s rising population, the rise of e-commerce companies, and hoarding of materials due to supply-chain challenges.
Founded in 1989, Mexcor International employs 250 in the United States and 66 in Florida. The company’s clients include Mexican distillers of tequila including Destiladora del Valle, Casa Don Ramon, and La Madrilena. The company has warehouses in Texas, Florida and California.
